For non-fiction, informational writing, and anything where the voice is a delivery mechanism, it is now good enough that most listeners would not object. For fiction, where the narrator performs characters, carries subtext and times a reveal, it is still audibly thin.

Where it works
Non-fiction and how-to. The voice delivers information and the writing carries the value. Listeners are focused on content.
Business and self-help. Same structure.

Your own book, in your own words. Worth saying: if it is your non-fiction book, consider recording it yourself even badly. Author-narrated non-fiction has a value that neither a hired narrator nor a synthetic voice replicates.
Where it does not
Fiction with dialogue. A narrator does characters: different pacing, different register, a suggestion of accent. Synthetic narration reads dialogue in the same voice as description, and the result is flat in a way that fiction listeners notice immediately.
Comedy. Timing is the joke.
Anything with emotional escalation. A voice that needs to break, drop to a whisper, or hold a pause.
Poetry. Line breaks are instructions about breath, and synthetic delivery follows punctuation instead.
What to get right
Punctuate for breath. Synthetic delivery follows punctuation more literally than a person does. Commas and full stops are your pacing controls, and a long sentence without them will be read without air.
Fix names before you generate. Character names, place names, technical terms. Spell them phonetically in the source text if the tool does not offer a pronunciation dictionary. Getting a protagonist's name wrong for nine hours is not recoverable.
Generate in chapters. Easier to fix one chapter than one file.
Listen to all of it. Not spot-check. A full book at normal speed is a long afternoon and it is the only way to catch the mispronunciations that matter.
Check numbers and units. "1985" can come out as "one thousand nine hundred eighty five."
The retailer question
Audiobook distributors and retailers have their own rules on synthetic narration, including disclosure requirements and in some cases restrictions on which catalogues accept it. These have changed more than once.
